גלריית איסט סייד גאלרי (גלריית הצד המזרחי) נפתחה בספטמבר 1990 על חלק בן 1.3 ק"מ שהשתמר מחומת ברלין. 118 אמנים מגרמניה וממדינות אחרות נפרדו באקט אמנותי סימלי מהדיקטטורה המזרח-גרמנית ומסימלה המובהק של המלחמה הקרה ביצירה צבעונית וחופשית על גבי החומה.
איסט סייד גאלרי נחשבת לגלריה הפתוחה הגדולה בעולם והינה אתר תיירות חשוב המושך תיירים רבים.

The East Side Gallery was opened on Sept. 1990. It was established on a 1.3 km preserved part of the Berlin Wall. 118 artists from Germany and other countries farewelled the East German dictatorship and the infamous Cold War's symbol with an artistic, free and colorful creation on the Berlin Wall.
The East Side Gallery is the largest open gallery in the world and has become an important tourist attraction.

עם חנוכת פרוייקט האיסט סייד גאלרי, יצר האמן הגרמני גינטר שפר, ממארגני ומייסדי הפרוייקט, את יצירתו "פאטרלנד" (ארץ מולדת). העבודה משלבת את דגל גרמניה עם דגל ישראל.

With the opening of the East Side Gallery, the German artist Günther Schaefer, one of the organizers and founders of the project, created "Vaterland". The work combines the German and the Israeli flags.

בספטמבר 2004 ביצע האמן הגרמני גינטר שפר פרוייקט למען השלום כשהוא משלב את דגל פלסטין בעבודתו המקורית "פאטרלנד", המשלבת את דגלי גרמניה וישראל. לפרויקט הוזמנתי אני כאמנית ישראלית וכן אמן פלסטיני (שבחר, למרות ההבטחות, לא להשתתף). ליצירה בגרסתה החדשה נוספה גם פואמה פרי עטי, כתובה על החומה. הפרוייקט זכה לתהודה רבה בתקשורת הגרמנית והבינלאומית.

In September 2004, an International Peace Action was conducted by the German artist Günther Schaefer. I was invited to take part in the project, as an Israeli artist, as was a Palestinian artist (who ultimately did not show up). The Palestinian flag was added to the original "Vaterland" work, and also a poem I wrote for the occasion. The action received much attention from the German and international media.

הגלריה הפתוחה שינתה פניה לאורך השנים בשל נזקי מזג האוויר ומתגובתם של עוברי אורח בגרפיטי, ציור או הרס של העבודות על החומה. בנובמבר 2009, לרגל אירועי 20 שנה לנפילת חומת ברלין, חודשה גלריית האיסט סייד גאלרי, והעבודות המקוריות מראשיתה שוחזרו. פרוייקט "פאטרלנד" של גינטר שפר הושב לגרסתו המקורית, אולם הפואמה שלי נשארה על החומה כתזכורת של תקווה לשלום.

Throughout the years the open gallery had known erosion from weather and human interference. On November 2009, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery was renovated and its original artworks restored. Günther Schaefer's "Vaterland" project was repainted as its first version but my poem remained on the wall as a reminder of the hope for peace.
