New(s) Works

New(s) Works. Mixed media with used Fax-machine carbon paper, collage of newspaper and oil on canvas.

The Mishkan of Art, Beit Meirov, Holon, 2002

New(s) Works presents the viewers with a visual challenge, urging them to face issues of everyday reality and universal situations in a manner that is both piercing and poetic.

As in modern poetry, Carmeli exhibiting in some of the works her feelings clearly, almost blatantly, at others barely hinting at them. Each and every work voices her creative and meaningful “trialogue” with the subject matter and with the viewer.

Unlike the measure of poetry, Carmeli’s expression is limitless. She creates cascades of words by using used fax-machine paper and collages of current newspapers. These sprinkle the eye with black and white, white and black, washing it with a mass of information, while also organizing the mass into stripes, pathways, and organized lattices. This is used to demonstrate the extensive and intense “News” activity surrounding us, an activity that exposes us to information while imprinting on our minds.

Carmeli makes outstanding use of the options available in the varied materialness of contents and matter in this interwoven series of works which together make up New(s) Works, providing an artistic response and a special outlook on that loaded ubiquitous presence in our lives – the media.
