Photo book: DECAPSULATION - צפונות
This book is the product of a long emotional and artistic Journey walking on the thin line between personal and Collective memory and the actual reality. The result is a very concise eclectic collection revealing a story well worth remembering and well worth telling.
The book includes texts by History and Philosophy Professor Moshe Zuckermann, art curator Yehudit Matzkel and artist and activist Günther Schaefer, and consists of 57 images that have been photographed over the years 2004-2012 in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. It is a personal journey of mine confronting with my family's past as a Jewish family originating in Poland and Germany and leaving Nazi Berlin before WWII.
In accordance with the insight "I see memory", the camera has enabled me to document the clash between recollections of the past and the dizzying current eclecticism of the present. Throughout my travels and over the years, I felt as if layers of hidden memories enveloped and covered me, and this book has enabled me to release and unfold this cocoon enfolding the images in pages and a cover.
I sensed a return already on my first arrival at the place.
I remembered, hoarded, and the time has now come
to lay to rest, to release, and to enfold the layers of memory
in pages and a cover. 2013
